Egypt on Monday announced the repatriation of a stolen artifact that was about to be sold at auction in London .
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry said its Cultural Relations Department received the artifact from the Egyptian Embassy in London.
The artifact was illegally smuggled out of Egypt after it was stolen from the Bahbit al-Higarah Temple, located in the city of Samanoud northeast of Cairo.
The Ministry of Antiquities had requested Egypt’s embassy in London to intervene to stop the sale.
The ancient stone piece comprises an incomplete human body, where only part of the shoulders are seen, with the head of a cow.
