Egypt has renewed its rejection of a recent US State Department report claiming that Egypt's Christians were subject to widespread religious discrimination.
Government spokesman Magdy Rady told reporters on Tuesday that Egypt "rejects this report and rejects the idea that certain countries can appoint themselves to pass judgment on others.”
Egypt's Foreign Ministry likewise rejected the report, saying that Washington had "no right" to assess religious freedoms–even within the US itself.
According to the report, Christians and Baha'is in Egypt do not enjoy equal access to government jobs. The report also asserted that Egyptian authorities were refusing to issue new national identification cards for Muslim converts to Christianity that indicated their adopted faith.
