The Egyptian government responded on Tuesday to online rumors claiming that the Siemens Company has reportedly withdrawn from operating the two largest power plants in Egypt due to a delay in its financial dues.
The Cabinet’s Media Center said in an official statement that it had contacted the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy which denied the news.
It assured that there is no basis to the claims, and added that the government remains committed to pay the company’s financial dues on the specified dates in accordance with the contract between the two parties.
Siemens in turn remains committed to operating and maintaining the power stations contracted under the agreement concluded with the ministry in September 2018, which includes operating, maintaining and managing the power stations of Burullus, the New Administrative Capital, and Beni Suef for a period of eight years.
The ministry emphasized the efficiency of Siemens power stations, which operate on a combined cycle system with an operating efficiency that exceeds 61 percent, thereby reducing the rate of fuel consumption used in generating electricity.
It appealed to citizens not to be led by false rumors and only accept information from official sources.
