Egypt receives one million doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine from Argentina

Egypt received one million doses of the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine on Thursday morning, at Cairo International Airport, from Argentina.

This marks the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Argentina, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, announced.

The step came under the state’s plan to diversify and expand providing anti-coronavirus vaccines, he said.

Abdel Ghaffar explained that the shipment will be subject to the necessary analyzes and checks in the laboratories of the Egyptian Drug Authority, to ensure its safety and effectiveness before presented to the public.

A delegation from the Argentine embassy in Cairo, headed by ambassador Eduardo Varela and Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister for Latin American Affairs, Ashraf Mounir received the shipment at the airport, Abdel Ghaffar added.

Egypt was able in a short time to provide all the coronavirus vaccines approved by the World Health Organization, which included Sinovac, Sinopharm, AstraZeneca, Sputnik, Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, and Moderna.

The Ministry of Health and Population called on citizens to register on the Health Ministry’s website https://egcovac.mohp.gov.eg/#/registration to receive coronavirus vaccines, stressing that the Egyptian state spares no effort in providing vaccines to citizens for free, through permanent cooperation with international organizations and bodies.
