Egypt receives 10,194 returnees from Sudan

The Egyptian Transport Ministry announced on Wednesday that the number of evacuees from Sudan through the land border crossings between the two countries during the period April 21st to 25th has reached 10,194 Egyptians amongst other nationalities.

The ministry officially said in a statement that the total number of people returning from Sudan through Qastal land port reached 1,297.

On the other hand those returning through the Arqeen land port reached 8,897.

The statement noted that the two ports are receiving  large numbers from various countries.

Foreign embassies in Egypt coordinated with the Foreign Ministry, Transport Ministry and other concerned authorities in Egypt to receive their returning citizens.

It added that the Ministry’s Land Transport Regulatory Authority provides buses to transport the returnees from Arqeen crossing to all parts of Egypt.

Likewise, coordination has been made with Egyptian truck drivers in Dongola and Khartoum to transport students and some Egyptian families to the Arqeen crossing.

The statement added that coordination made with Egyptian Red Crescent to provide the necessary meals and medicines for the returnees from Sudan.

It indicated that advanced points for the Egyptian Red Crescent have been opened in the two ports, and more ambulances have been provided, in coordination with the Egyptian Ambulance Authority.

The staff of the two ports have also been increased to accommodate the large amounts.

This strategy has been put into place in order to quickly complete all access procedures and provide them with all kinds of support.

The statement added that people who do not have money have been exempted from access fees.
