The Center for Support and Decision-Making, affiliated with the Egyptian Cabinet, announced a report on Egypt being amongst the top ten most searched countries to travel to on Google in 2023.
The center said that according to the French newspaper Le Monde, Egypt owes its presence on the list due to its ancient tourist attractions, such as the Pyramids of Giza, Luxor, Karnak, Abu Simbel, and Nubian villages.
Besides its many artifacts and tourist sites, the distinctive Egyptian food and year-long sunny climate represent additional factors for cementing the country as an attractive destination in any season.
Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Issa confirmed in January that Egypt has overcome various odds and challenges in the tourism sector, breaking new records in 2023 after receiving over 14 million tourists.
During a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the minister added that Egypt had welcomed 14.906 million tourists, breaking the previous record of 14.731 million tourists set in 2010.
Furthermore, the Head of the Central Administration for Hotel Establishments, Shops and Tourism Activities at Egypt’s Tourism Ministry, Mohamed Amer, announced that the total number of new hotel rooms that were opened or re-operated during the past year amounted to 14,209.
This is an unprecedented number, Amer said, representing Egyptian tourism’s highest growth rate in the last 15 years – with a seven percent growth rate in the size of hotel capacity totaling 220,044 rooms.
Issa stressed the importance of speeding up construction of the required hotel rooms, to accommodate Egypt’s target for incoming tourist traffic to receive 30 million tourists by 2028.
Additionally, efforts are in place to increase available air capacity and triple its current level by 2028, he said.
This is evidenced by the increase in the number of incentivized and incoming air seats to Egypt from 561,852 seats in August 2022 to 698,779 seats in October 2023.
