Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk held discussions with his counterparts from Madagascar, South Sudan, and the Central African Republic, along with the Director of Agricultural Research at the African Union, to explore ways of enhancing agricultural cooperation and achieving food security across Africa.
The meetings took place on the sidelines of the African Union’s Extraordinary Summit on Agricultural Development, currently being held in Kampala, Uganda.
During talks with Madagascar’s Minister of Agriculture and Livestock Hajarison Francois, Farouk reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting African nations under President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s directives.
Francois expressed his eagerness to benefit from Egypt’s expertise in agriculture and livestock production. Farouk invited Francois to visit Egypt to observe its agricultural advancements and technologies firsthand.
Farouk also met with Dr. Ahmed El-Meks, Director of Agricultural Research at the African Union, to discuss bolstering collaboration in agricultural research and technology through Egypt’s agricultural and desert research centers.
In another meeting, Farouk engaged with South Sudanese Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Josephine Lagu, emphasizing Egypt’s readiness to provide technical support and training for South Sudanese farmers.
The discussion focused on shared agricultural initiatives and transferring Egypt’s expertise in water management and integrated agricultural communities.
Farouk also discussed joint agricultural efforts with Guismala Hamza, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Central African Republic, highlighting the importance of exchanging expertise, boosting agricultural investment, and training agricultural professionals.
Farouk represented President Sisi at the AU summit, which runs from January 9 to 11 and focuses on the African Comprehensive Agricultural Development Program.
