Egypt praises UK’s planned recognition of Palestinian state

Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, praised the announcement by several Western countries, including the UK, of their desire to recognize a Palestinian state on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

This sends a crucial message to the Palestinian people, helping them achieve their legitimate aspirations and establish their own independent state, he noted.

He stressed that expanding the recognition of a Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital is the only path to achieving security and stability for all people in the region.

The Foreign Minister held a phone call with the UK’s new Foreign Secretary, Yvette Cooper, on Saturday.

He congratulated her on her new position and emphasized Egypt’s keenness to work together to improve bilateral relations in all political, economic, trade, and investment fields for the benefit of both countries.

Abdelatty noted that this mutual desire was reflected in the recent communications between the Egyptian President and the British Prime Minister, the latest of which was on September 11.

During the call, the Foreign Minister reviewed the latest developments in the Gaza Strip, particularly the dire state of humanitarian conditions there. He stressed Egypt’s absolute rejection of Israel’s ongoing crimes, the genocide being committed, and the obstruction of aid.

He also condemned Israel’s systematic policy of using starvation as a weapon to force the Palestinian people to emigrate from their land, something Egypt rejects “under any name or pretext.”

It is the international community’s responsibility to put an end to these blatant crimes and intervene to stop the war, he stressed.
