Egypt participates in Partnership for Action on Green Economy conference

The Egyptian Ministry of Environment is participating in the First World Conference on Partnership for Action on Green Economy in Dubai.

The conference is launching an initiative by 30 countries seeking to shift to a green economy by 2020. It is exchanging scientific expertise in this field, presenting green projects and offering green jobs.

It was inaugurated by UAE Minister of Environment Prince Ahmed Rashid with the participation of 27 ministers of environment, labor, finance, industry and local development, as well as representatives of the International Labor Organization, the United Nations Environment Programme, the UN Industrial Development Organization, the UN Institute of Research and Training and 400 government and non-government representatives.

The conference recommended that all world governments commit to turn to a green economy by 2015 and direct investments and funding to green projects in all areas of development.

It also recommended that governments develop a green agenda, support small and medium industries serving the environment, include the principles of sustainable development in constitutions and cooperate with United Nations programs that support developing countries turning to green economies.

It urged private sectors, civil society organizations and banks to cooperate with public sectors and support green projects, and called for a carbon tax on industries polluting the environment.
