In Cairo, intensive meetings continue between Egyptian officials and a Hamas delegation headed by Mohammed Darwish, including Khalil al-Hayya, Nizar Awadallah, and Zaher Jabarin, with the participation of a US delegation.
The aim is to formulate a plan for managing the Gaza Strip in the coming phase, discuss the formation of a technocratic committee to administer the strip, and arrange for national reconciliation.
Informed sources said that the talks focused on finalizing the formation of a technocratic committee to temporarily manage the Gaza Strip, thus paving the way for a comprehensive Palestinian national reconciliation.
The sources explained that a high-level American delegation met with Egyptian security officials to discuss implementing the second phase of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement – which aims to achieve a long-term ceasefire, establish security, and define Egypt’s role in the international force.
Discussions regarding the handling of Hamas’ weapons are proceeding smoothly, the sources said, adding that they expect that the ongoing meetings to resolve this issue – specifically in regards to retaining “personal weapons.”
While Egypt and international mediators seek to enter the second phase of negotiations under the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement, Israel’s violations continue to escalate.
The UNRWA said that the situation in Gaza is “catastrophic by all measures,” with more than 90 percent of the population dependent on aid, and many receiving only one meal a day.
Israel continues to expand its operations beyond the Yellow Line, with the areas of Bani Suheila, al-Tuffah neighborhood, and al-Maghazi witnessing shelling, demolition, and the bulldozing of homes.
These actions resulted in the deaths of several civilians, including children, as they attempted to return to their homes.
