Egypt, Morocco go over ‘military coup’ report crisis

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has invited King Mohamed VI of Morocco to visit Egypt in March, after a bilateral media crisis that was tackled by the two countries’ foreign ministries on Friday.

A Moroccan statement said that the king received in city of Fes the Egyptian Foreign Ministry Sameh Shokry who delivered Sisi’s invitation for the king to visit Egypt.

The crisis first started when the Moroccan official television aired a report on the negative impact of the military coup in Egypt, more than year after Sisi came to power.

In related news, Shokry and his Moroccan counterpart Salaheddine Mezouar made a joint statement on Friday on the occasion of Shokry’s visit to the kingdom. The statement included 20 terms on the nature of their bilateral ties.

Shokry, according to the statement, came in a visit to Morocco on 15-16 January with a written message from Sisi to the Moroccan king.

The foreign minister also met with King Mohamed VI and expressed Sisi’s appreciation to the Moroccan people, government and king, the statement said. During the meeting, the two officials tackled bilateral cooperation as well as several important regional and international issues.

The statement added that the two foreign ministers held talks during which they confirmed the historical bilateral ties as well as interest in developing them. They also discussed future cooperation in different social, economic, political, trade and cultural fields.
