Egyptian authorities have succeeded in liberating kidnapped Egyptian citizens in Sudan from the Rapid Support Forces militia, in coordination with the Sudanese authorities.
According to the Extra News channel on Thursday, the liberation of the Egyptians came based on the directives of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who ordered that all measures be taken to save them.
It was noted that the kidnapped Egyptians were transferred from the conflict zones in central Khartoum to the city of Port Sudan and safely returned to Egypt.
A statement from the Foreign Ministry issued back in October assured that Egypt emphasizes its keenness on the security, stability, and unity of neighboring Sudan, land and people, and stressed that it will spare no effort to provide all means of support to Sudan to confront the severe damage resulting from the war.
Earlier in July, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called for joint efforts to reach a comprehensive political solution to the Sudanese crisis – one which meets all the desires of its people.
In statements at the time, Sisi said: “We are keen on coordination and cooperation with all regional and international partners to resolve the Sudanese crisis.”
Outbreak of war
Clashes broke out on April 2023 between the Rapid Support Forces and the army in Marawi and Khartoum, and quickly spread to other parts of Sudan.
As a result of the conflict, thousands were killed and tens of thousands injured.
The warring parties held a series of consultations in Jeddah in 2023, while a ceasefire between the army and RSF was repeatedly announced, yet none of the agreements reached were fully implemented.
