Egypt launches new website for Passports and Emigration Administration

The Ministry of Interior has launched a website for the General Administration of Passports, Emigration and Nationality as part of an ongoing modernization campaign that aims to reduce wait time at the department’s offices, according to a statement released on Monday.

The website was launched in coordination with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, which designed the website to offer a number of services provided by the department in-person.

The website provides detailed information about each service offered by the department, as well as information on required documents.

The website offers a number of e-services as well, which includes allowing individuals to apply for Egyptian citizenship for the children of an Egyptian mother and to apply for Egyptian citizenship for the foreign wife of an Egyptian citizen without having to make a trip to the department’s offices.

E-services also include documentation to prove Egyptian citizenship, permission to apply for foreign citizenship while retaining Egyptian citizenship, and permission to apply for foreign citizenship without retention of Egyptian citizenship.

The ministry said that the ongoing modernization campaign targeting all aspects of the General Administration of Passports, Emigration and Nationality, which includes development of the website, should facilitate obtaining proper documentation and other services while reducing overcrowding at the department’s offices.

The General Administration of Passports, Emigration and Nationality began providing services to Egyptians and foreigners at their new headquarters in Cairo’s Abbasseya district in July, announcing as well that the department would begin providing a smart residence card to foreigners, which should allow them to deal with governmental and non-governmental institutions more easily.
