The Egyptian Ministry of Transportation issued a statement on Thursday denying reports that the Alexandria port had received a German ship loaded with weapons bound for Israel.
The Ministry of Transportation’s statement came after the Egyptian army “categorically denied the rumors of aiding Israel in its military operations.”
A “high-ranking Egyptian source” also denied the rumor earlier Thursday, according to the Cairo News channel.
The Egyptian Ministry of Transportation said that “what has been published on social media that the Egyptian government has allowed a German ship to dock at the port of Alexandria is incorrect and completely false.”
The ministry explained that the ship “KATHRIN” of Portuguese nationality and flying the German flag was allowed to dock at Alexandria port to unload a cargo belonging to the Ministry of Military Production, and that the ship submitted an official request to allow it to leave the port towards Turkey’s Port of Haydarpaşa (Port of Haidar Pasha) to complete its itinerary.
A circulating report claimed that the ship received by the Alexandria port was carrying weapons bound for Israel to support its military operations in Gaza and Lebanon.
Egypt’s military spokesperson said Thursday that the armed forces emphasize that there is no form of cooperation with Israel, stressing that “the armed forces are the nation’s shield and sword to protect its capabilities and defend its great people.”
