The Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee in the Egyptian House of Representatives, MP Ahmed al-Awadi on Sunday explained the reason behind the increase in fees for issuing Egyptian passports.
In a phone interview with TV host Amr Adib on the “al-Hekaya” (The Story) show on MBC Masr, Awadi attributed the increase to the high prices of requirements for passport issuance needing paper imported from abroad.
He said that the increase is estimated at LE750 and reaches LE1,000, in addition to other fees, for a regular passport, but not an urgent one.
“The regular passport is received within a week, and the urgent passport is obtained on the same day at a higher fee,” he explained.
“The final cost of obtaining a regular passport will exceed LE 1,000 including the rest of the prescribed fees.”
