Egypt to increase inspections of potato seeds from Europe

The Agriculture Ministry’s Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine has announced that it will be inspecting potato seeds imported from EU member countries more closely before allowing them into Egypt.

Quarantine chief Saad Moussa said Saturday that seeds imported from France, Scotland, England, Netherlands and Denmark currently under his administration’s checks have stood at 21,000 tons.

He added that a total of 100 tons were rejected for not conforming with potato seed standards laid down in laws and quarantine rules established in 2015, stressing that the disqualified shipments should be returned to their exporting countries.
