Egypt in talks with WFP over aid to Gaza, Sudan

CAIRO, Feb 2 (MENA) – Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security Amr al-Gowily discussed Sunday with Deputy Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of the World Food Program (WFP) Carl Skau bilateral cooperation and the central role played by Egypt in supporting regional aid provided by the program, especially to the Gaza Strip and Sudan.

The two sides also discussed the implementation of the program’s Egypt strategic plan (2023-2028), which aims to help the Egyptian government implement its national priorities within the framework of the Egypt 2030 vision.

The plan is meant to help Egypt achieve the goals of sustainable development, food security and nutrition, expand social protection network and support refugees on its lands.

The two sides, in the presence of Director of the Palestine Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Mahmoud Oma, also discussed enhancing food aid to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and Sudan, in response to the urgent humanitarian needs in the two countries, especially in light of Cairo hosting the program’s regional office and the role played by Egypt, through its embassy in Rome, as a member of the program’s Executive Board.
