Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration Badr Abdelatty stated that it is necessary for Europe to fulfill its responsibilities by providing the utmost levels of economic and development support to Egypt to assist it in dealing with the extremely difficult situation of hosting over 10 million migrant guests on Egyptian soil.
During a joint press conference held today, Monday, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary, Peter Szijjártó, Abdelatty explained: “It is better for the European side to double its support and provide its capabilities to deal with this problem, and also to double European investments in Egypt to resolve the issue and support Egypt’s guests from various countries present on Egyptian soil.”
Abdelatty explained that there is full Hungarian and European appreciation for Egypt’s great role in hosting more than 10 million guests on its soil despite the burden and economic challenges resulting from unfavorable international circumstances for which Egypt is not responsible.
The two ministers discussed several issues during their meeting, including the situation in the Horn of Africa, emphasizing the unity of Somali lands and the complete rejection of any unilateral policies that undermine Somalia’s unity.
They also discussed Egypt’s water security and the fact that Egypt will not compromise on a single drop of water, as the annual amount of Nile water that reaches Egypt, is insufficient to meet 60 percent of the nation’s annual needs.
Egypt therefore recycles water more than once to be able to bridge the current gap, and consequently, there is no room to give up a single drop of water even at current rates.
