Egypt hosted the periodic meetings of the Competition Commission of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) from September 10 to 16.
Addressing the meetings, Head of the Egyptian Competition Authority Mahmoud Momtaz praised the important role played by the COMESA Competition Commission, stressing Egypt’s keenness to continuously cooperate with competition authorities in African countries, enhance joint African action through bilateral agreements or joint economic blocs and groupings, and work jointly to confront monopolistic practices at the continental level.
Cairo’s choice to host the meetings confirms the Commission’s confidence in the Egyptian state, its security and stability, and its leadership in protecting competition policies in the region, he added.
For his part, Chief Executive Officer at the COMESA Competition Commission Willard Mwemba said that the Egyptian Competition Authority plays an essential role in supporting the common market among member states, and also represents the cornerstone of cooperation and communication between COMESA and Arab countries.
He thanked Egypt’s political leadership for its constant keenness to support integration among COMESA member states.
