Egypt hosts African environment summit in March

Egypt will host in March a major African conference on environment, the Environment Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday, saying that Egypt was hoping to unify the continent’s policies towards environmental issues through that conference.

One of the most outstanding regional conferences, The African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) was first kick-started in 1985 as a means to unify the continent’s environmental vision and policy-making.

It is scheduled to discuss strategies emanating from the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio +20) as well as other issues related to sustainable development and biodiversity.

The ministry said the conference, over its past 14 sessions, has helped lobby political, financial and technical support for Africa’s active engagement in environmental issues.
