Egypt on Monday harshly condemned Israel’s decision to withdraw from the agreement regulating the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and officially cancel its work.
In a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Egypt warned that this unacceptable decision marks a new chapter of Israel’s violations of international laws.
The statement added that this move constitutes a dangerous development through which Israel aims to liquidate the Palestinian cause, and is an unacceptable disregard for the UN, its agencies and the international community.
Egypt affirmed its support for the steadfastness of the Palestinian people on their land.
It reiterated its emphasis on the necessity of the international community’s commitment to supporting the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, including the right of return, which does not expire with the passage of time and is guaranteed by human rights and international law.
The statement warned against the dire consequences of this illegal decision on defenseless Palestinian civilians and the potential collapse of humanitarian work and vital services provided to them.
Egypt held the Israeli government fully responsible for the consequences of this decision.
Egypt reiterates that the role of the UNRWA cannot be dispensed with or replaced, and that the Security Council must assume its role to maintain international peace and security, especially with the unfortunate international inaction towards the daily suffering of the Palestinian people as a result of the brutal war waged by Israel.
It called on the international community to confront Israel’s violations which seek to restrict services that alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians.
