Foreign Minister Nabil al-Arabi met his Sudanese counterpart, Ali Karti, to discuss how to enhance and develop Egyptian-Sudanese relations at the headquarters of the Sudanese Foreign Ministry on Saturday.
Arabi said after the meeting that Egyptian-Sudanese relations have entered a "new stage".
"In the Ministerial Technical Committee meeting we discussed the Four Freedoms Agreement, which will come into force very soon," he said.
He denied they met because of the ongoing dispute over the Halayeb area between the two countries. He pointed out that the two sides agreed after the revolution that the border area would be for integration and investments between both countries, not an area of dispute.
He called on the media to focus on factors that help develop relations, and avoid topics that could raise tensions.
Karti pointed out that the Sudanese president's visit to Halayeb region, scheduled for this month, will be to Oseef, away from the Halayeb border area.
He said that both the Sudanese and Egyptian media had handled the issue unwisely.
Karti also pointed out that there was a successful four-day round of talks recently in Cairo between economists from the two countries. He said several agreements were signed.
"We are in need now of further arrangements on the implementation during the next three months," Karti said, adding that relations between the two countries are progressing after the Egyptian revolution.
