Egypt government affirms Mortada Mansour’s membership of Zamalek SC annulled

Egypt’s Youth and Sports Ministry resolved the controversy over the legal situation of the Zamalek SC presidency.

This comes after a final court ruling was issued to imprison Mortada Mansour, the club’s president.

On Saturday, the Court of Cassation convicted Mansour over changes of slander.

The court turned down the appeals lodged by Mansour against his imprisonment on charges of insulting and slandering the President of Al-Ahly SC, Mahmoud al-Khatib.

The court upheld the previous imprisonment of Mansour, for one month, in a final ruling that is not subject to appeal.

Expert in sports regulations Mohamed Bayoumi told Al-Masry Al-Youm on Sunday that Mansour can be dismissed from the presidency of Zamalek SC over the conviction.

Youth and Sports Ministry announced the continuation of the current board of directors of Zamalek with its right to choose whomever it delegates from among its members to carry out the duties of the club president until the nearest general assembly, to elect a new president for the club.

The Ministry confirmed the application of the conditions of Article 41 of the guiding bylaws on Mansour and the cessation of his membership from the Board of Directors.

The ministry also confirmed the activation of Article No. 23.

This is the club’s board of directors get to choose the chairman of the board of directors in absence of the outgoing president.

Zamalek SC board decided to delegate Suleiman Wahdan, a member of the Board of Directors, with the duties of the club’s president until the nearest general assembly to elect a president.

For his part, Suleiman Wahdan, the acting president of Zamalek, said “Mortada Mansour absence left a great void. He was addressing many crises and problems in the club.”
