Egypt FM meets his Portuguese counterpart on sidelines of UNGA session

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry discussed Friday with his Portuguese counterpart João Gomes Cravinho ways of boosting bilateral ties.

The meeting between the two top diplomats was held on the sidelines of the high-level meetings of the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

The talks reflected the distinguished ties binding Egypt and Portugal, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

During the meeting, the two ministers stressed the importance of intensifying political consultation mechanisms between the two countries and increasing the frequency of visits at different levels.

They further underlined the need of holding the second session of the joint committee between the two countries in the nearest possible time.

The talks also dwelt on boosting economic and trade ties, either at the bilateral level or at trilateral level in the African Continent.

The two top diplomats discussed a host of regional issues of mutual interest, including the latest developments in the Palestinian territories.

The Portuguese minister also briefed Shoukry on the latest developments in the Ukrainian crisis and its economic repercussions.

At the end of the meeting, the two ministers agreed to continue consultation to enhance ties between the two countries.
