Egypt eyes global bidding for planning area surrounding the Pyramids

Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Sunday to review the procedures for the global bidding to plan the area surrounding the Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), up until Sphinx Airport to the north and Dahshur to the south.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities Sherif al-Sherbiny and Assistant Minister of Housing Abdel-Khalek Ibrahim.

The Prime Minister said that this comes as part of a series of meetings held out of interest in the pyramids area, the GEM that will be opened soon, and the archaeological areas adjacent and surrounding them registered with UNESCO.

He noted that the area and its surroundings contain unique historical and archaeological treasures, which requires placing it on the agenda of interest and improving services provided to its visitors, both foreigners and Egyptians, in a manner befitting its status and archaeological and historical value.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said that the meeting discussed the measures taken regarding the global bidding, and a number of development and tourism visions and strategies for the Pyramids area and the surrounding areas were reviewed, which contributes to attracting more tourism to it and improving their experience.
