Amr al-Samadoni, Secretary-General of the International Transport and Logistics Division, emphasized the need for a specific plan to develop the ‘Nasser for Export and Import’ company, affiliated with the public business sector.
This plan aims to open new markets for Egyptian products, particularly in Africa, and to leverage the logistics centers being established in various African countries.
Al-Samadoni added that Egypt’s membership in numerous international trade agreements, such as COMESA and the African Continental Free Trade Area, will facilitate cooperation with many new trade partners.
In a press statement on Sunday, Al-Samadoni stressed the importance of developing trade relations between Egypt and Africa, given their growing economic, political, and developmental dimensions.
He noted that Africa represents one of the target geographical markets for Egyptian exports, and that African markets are more easily accessible for Egyptian products compared to European markets, which impose almost prohibitive efficiency standards.
The Secretary-General of the International Transport and Logistics Division emphasized that the Nasser for Export and Import Company was once a leading public sector company in opening up foreign markets for Egypt, particularly in Arab, European, and African countries.
It played a pivotal role in fostering cooperation with many African countries through the export of various Egyptian products, including food, pharmaceuticals, and electrical goods. However, its role declined during the period of economic openness in the 1970s, leading to marginalization and neglect until its role virtually disappeared.
In recent years, the government has launched the ‘Jusoor’ project, which public and private companies have high hopes for, along with an electronic catalog, with the aim of increasing exports.
The Secretary-General also noted that the Ministry of Planning, Economic Development, and International Cooperation, in collaboration with relevant authorities, launched the executive plan for developing Egyptian exports to the African continent on November 29, 2021, aiming to double Egypt’s exports to African countries to reach $15 billion by 2025.
