The Egyptian Foreign Ministry Affairs in a Saturday statement explained that it is following up around the clock with all concerned state agencies, Sudanese authorities, the Egyptian embassy in Khartoum and the Egyptian consulates in Port Sudan and Wadi Halfa on the state of the Egyptian community in Sudan.
In a Facebook statement, the ministry said that it is preparing to evacuate Egyptian citizens wishing to return as soon as the facilitating conditions for that are available.
It urged all Egyptians in Sudan to stay by their homes and avoid any areas close to the conflict, and implored them to keep calm and maintain in contact with Egyptian diplomatic and consular representation in Sudan, until evacuation orders are received.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry received a phone call on Saturday from Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billstrom, during which they discussed the situation in Sudan, and ways to support and stabilize the ceasefire to enable humanitarian relief operations and their access to the injured.
A statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said that Shoukry discussed Egypt’s efforts through its contacts with all parties.
The statement stressed the importance of working towards a permanent ceasefire and avoiding all violations “in order to prevent bloodshed of the brotherly Sudanese people.”
Shoukry also touched on the “The need for any external party to refrain from interfering in a way that undermines the calming efforts, and to contribute to the success of the efforts aimed at getting Sudan out of this difficult situation,” according to the statement.
