Egypt enhances agricultural cooperation with Senegal, Somalia

Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk met with his Senegalese and Somali counterparts on the sidelines of the African Union (AU) Extraordinary Summit on Agricultural Development in Kampala, Uganda, to discuss enhancing agricultural cooperation.

The talks focused on advancing sustainable farming practices, boosting trade in agricultural products, and sharing expertise in crop development and resource management.

During his meeting with Senegalese Minister Mabouba Diagne, both ministers emphasized the deep historical ties between their nations and expressed their commitment to advancing agricultural collaboration on seed production, with Senegal seeking Egypt’s support in developing high-yield crops like wheat, maize, and rice.

They also discussed joint projects, including grain storage facilities and fertilizer imports, leveraging a partnership with the African Development Bank.

In talks with Somali Minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir, Farouk outlined plans to share Egypt’s expertise in water resource management, pest control, and improving crop productivity. Egypt will send experts to Somalia for technical support and training programs while facilitating trade in agricultural products between the two nations.
