Egyptian security authorities discovered on Monday a cache of munitions near the central Sinai city of Nakhal.
Police authorities had received reports about a number of smugglers who were storing large quantities of old wartime munitions to transfer through underground tunnels into the Gaza Strip.
The cache was raided by a team of armored vehicles and soldiers, accompanied by a bomb-disposal expert. The force found the cache in an underground hole which housed several anti-aircraft missiles.
Police imposed tight security measures around the cache, and continued to scan the area for more secret repositories.
