CAIRO, March 24 (MENA) – Egypt has strongly condemned Israel’s announcement of the establishment of an agency aimed at displacing Palestinians from the Gaza Strip and its recognition of 13 new settlements in the West Bank.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Cairo affirmed that the so-called “voluntary departure”, which the Israeli side claims is being targeted by this agency, is baseless.
Departure that occurs under fire and amid policies that prevent humanitarian aid and use starvation as a weapon, constitutes forced displacement, a crime, and a violation under international law and international humanitarian law, the statement added.
Egypt called on the international community and the Security Council to adopt a firm stance against those ongoing Israeli violations and provocations, as well as to demonstrate the necessary seriousness and decisiveness to implement international legitimacy resolutions and restore the Palestinian people’s rights, foremost of which is their right to self-determination and the establishment of an independent state on the June 4, 1967 borders, with Al Quds (East Jerusalem) as its capital.
