
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos praised on Monday, February 9, 2026, the close and historic relations between the two countries.
This came during a phone call as part of regular consultations between the two sides to discuss means of enhancing bilateral ties and reviewing regional developments.
Abdelatty expressed aspiration for continued coordination at all levels, particularly in light of Cyprus’ current presidency of the Council of the European Union, commending Nicosia’s support for Egypt within various EU institutions.
He underlined the importance of intensifying joint cooperation in the coming period and of activating and implementing memoranda of understanding and agreements signed between the two sides.
He also stressed the need to enhance economic and investment cooperation and to expedite the implementation of a memorandum of understanding on employing Egyptian labor in Cyprus.
The foreign minister also highlighted the importance of the trilateral cooperation mechanism between Egypt, Cyprus and Greece at various levels, stressing the need to further develop relations in economic, trade, investment and tourism fields, while creating more opportunities for the private sector to boost economic and trade cooperation among the three countries.
The two ministers exchanged views on regional developments and means to de-escalate tensions, with Abdelatty briefing his Cypriot counterpart on Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce tensions and stressing the importance of intensifying regional and international efforts to promote diplomatic solutions.
He also affirmed that Egypt will continue its intensive contacts and diligent efforts to reach a consensual settlement of the Iranian nuclear file that takes into account the concerns of all parties, in a way that helps prevent the region from slipping into new waves of instability and supports regional security.
