Egypt condemns Israel’s bombing of facilities and infrastructure in Lebanon

Egypt strongly condemned the escalation of Israel’s war on Lebanon and its systematic targeting of vital civilian facilities and infrastructure, including bridges connecting Lebanese regions.

It considered these actions to be a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty and a grave breach of international law and the UN Charter.

In a statement issued by the Foreign Ministry on Monday, Egypt reaffirmed its unwavering support for the total territorial integrity of Lebanon, and its full solidarity with its institutions.

Egypt called for full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701 to ensure that Lebanese state institutions – foremost among them the Lebanese army – are empowered to fulfill their responsibilities, extend their sovereignty over all Lebanese territory, and place all weapons under their exclusive control.

Egypt affirmed that the deliberate destruction of infrastructure in Lebanon represents Israel’s blatant policy of collective punishment, leading to the forced displacement of approximately one million Lebanese and the depopulation of entire areas.

It strongly condemned the exploitation of the humanitarian crisis and the suffering of civilians as tools of military and political pressure.

Egypt called on international community, particularly the Security Council, to act immediately to deter Israel’s unchecked behavior, prevent further deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation, and avert the risk of Lebanon sliding into further instability.
