Egypt reiterated its complete rejection of Israel’s exploitation of Syria’s internal situation and the prevailing instability to undermine the country’s capabilities and occupy Syrian lands.
Egypt views Israel’s attacks on Syria as a persistent violation of international law and a blatant display of arrogance in the region.
The statement warned of the grave risks posed by Israel’s aggressive policies, calling on the Security Council, the international community, and influential international powers to assume their responsibilities in stopping this dangerous Israeli escalation in Syria and respecting the sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity of Syria.
The Israeli army recently conducted a ground incursion into the buffer zone with Syria and launched airstrikes on military sites and government buildings in several areas of Syria, under the orders of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, RT Arabic reported.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday announced the collapse of the 1974 disengagement agreement between Tel Aviv and Damascus, which governs the buffer zone between Syria and Israel, following the toppling of the Bashar al-Assad regime in Syria.
Damascus and Tel Aviv signed the disengagement agreement on May 31, 1974, in Geneva, with the aim of separating Syrian and Israeli forces and establishing a 401-square-kilometer buffer zone.
