Egypt condemns Israeli strikes on Gaza, seeks cease-fire

Egypt on Saturday condemned the Israeli aggression against the Gaza Strip, calling on Israel to immediately end the air strikes that have claimed the lives of at least 15 Palestinians since Friday.

Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr said “Egypt is deeply alarmed” by the Israeli attacks and demands that they immediately stop, state news agency MENA reported on Saturday.

Amr added that Egypt is trying to orchestrate a cease-fire to halt the violence.

Earlier on Saturday, AP quoted Egypt's envoy to the Palestinians as saying that Israel had violated a long-unspoken truce on the Gaza border and called for calm.

"We are calling on all sides to return to a cease-fire," said Egyptian consul Yasser Usman from the West Bank city of Ramallah.

According to the Palestinian wire service Ma'an and Twitter users, one of the Gazans killed on Saturday was Mansour Abu Nusaira, 20 (pictured above).
