CAIRO, Sept 16 (MENA) – Egypt on Tuesday strongly condemned Israel’s launch of a military operation in Gaza City, calling it a dangerous escalation and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
In a statement issued by the foreign ministry, Egypt said the operation reflects Israel’s continued pursuit of a reckless policy that risks severe consequences for the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and the wider region.
Egypt warned of the catastrophic risks posed by the Israeli military campaign, saying the region is on the brink of a new phase of total chaos driven by Israel’s blatant arrogance and recklessness. Such actions, Egypt said, would inevitably harm the interests of all regional and international parties.
Cairo held the international community accountable for the severe deterioration of the situation and the failure to act in response to crimes and acts of genocide. It called for respect for human rights and the rule of law, urging immediate steps to end the war on Gaza and save Palestinian lives.
The statement noted that the Israeli war machine has killed nearly 65,000 Palestinians and injured hundreds of thousands since the start of the conflict, while causing massive destruction to Gaza’s infrastructure.
Egypt also highlighted the dire humanitarian consequences of the Israeli operation, especially under the ongoing blockade and famine conditions imposed on Gaza. It denounced the accompanying displacement and abuse of the Palestinian population in the enclave.
