In a statement on Thursday, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry condemned the Israeli occupation’s practices of displacing Palestinians from the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
Egypt is following with great concern the violent incidents taking place in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
Palestinian citizens are subjected to provocative practices and attacks that exacerbate tension in the city of Jerusalem on a daily basis.
Official spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry Ahmed Hafez expressed Egypt’s condemnation of all attempts to displace the Palestinian population from their homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood.
Egypt asks for a change in the demographic identity of East Jerusalem, stressing that such practices represent a violation of the decisions of international legitimacy and the law and the continue the policy of forced displacement of Palestinians.
Hafez stressed the need to provide the necessary protection for the brotherly Palestinian people, as well as the need to stop demolishing homes and confiscating lands in the West Bank as well as in East Jerusalem.
He reiterated that the continuation of similar unilateral measures undermines the chances of reaching a two-state solution and establishing the desired peace in the region.
