Egypt closes Ouja border crossing for Yom Kippur

Egyptian authorities on Wednesday decided to close the Ouja commercial crossing for one day as Israel celebrates Yom Kippur. The crossing will reopen Thursday morning, MENA reported.

A security official said a deal signed between Egypt and Israel stipulates that the crossing will close for two holidays, Eid al-Adha and Yom Kippur. It may also be closed for other holidays if agreed upon by both countries.

Egypt allows humanitarian aid for Gaza into Israel through the Ouja crossing in central Sinai. The aid is then moved to Gaza through border crossings with Israel.

The crossing is also used for commercial trade between Egypt and Israel, according to the Qualified Industrial Zones trade agreement signed between Egypt, Israel and the US.
