Egypt, China sign agreement to manufacture electric vehicles

Military Production Minister Mohamed al-Assar and Trade and Industry Minister Amr Nassar on Saturday witnessed the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement with China for the joint manufacturing of electric vehicles in Egypt.

The agreement was signed on the Egyptian side by two representatives of the  Military Factory 200 and Emot Design and Consultancy Company, while a representative of the Foton Motor company for the automotive industry signed it on behalf of the Chinese side.

Assar stressed that the project to manufacture electric cars in Egypt is under the supervision of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and is in accordance with his directives aimed at the full manufacturing of these cars, as well as Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly’s encouragement of this project which he follows up day by day.

He pointed out that the partnership agreement with the Chinese side includes the joint manufacturing of 2000 buses in four years with the proportion of the Egyptian component at 45 percent.

The project’s next stage will include the joint manufacturing of other types of electric cars in cooperation with the Military Factory 200.

Assar said the second phase will be for the manufacture of major buses with a capacity of 180 passengers.
