Egypt categorically rejects proposals for administering Gaza Strip

The spokesperson for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry, Tamim Khallaf, stressed that any proposals which bypass Israel’s withdrawal from occupied Palestinian territories and the establishment of a Palestinian state will be rejected by Egypt and Arab nations.

These proposals are seen as incomplete and will only prolong the conflict, rather than achieving a permanent resolution.

The statement of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, according to the Cairo News Channel, came in response to press inquiries about the circulating proposals regarding the governance of the Gaza Strip, the latest of which is a proposal for Egypt to take over the administration of the Gaza for a period of time.

Ambassador Tamim Khallaf noted the organic link between the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as Palestinian territories that represent the territory of the independent Palestinian state and must be subject to full Palestinian sovereignty and administration.

France24 reported that Israel’s proposal includes Egypt leading a “peace force” in which the international community and Gulf states will also participate, with the aim of “managing and rebuilding” the Strip devastated by the war that has lasted more than 15 months, which broke out following the attack launched by the Palestinian movement on southern Israel on October 7, 2023.
