Egypt on Saturday joined the G20 summit in the Indian capital, New Delhi, held over two days.
During the summit, Egypt will call for effective support towards developing countries to achieve sustainable development goals in the face of challenges regarding the economy, food and energy.
Under the slogan, “One Land, One Family, One Future,” the summit is held in the midst of significant global challenges such as the war in Ukraine and rising tensions between China and the US.
This year’s summit features about 30 heads of state and senior officials from the European Union and invited countries, and about 14 heads from international organizations.
The spokesperson for the Egyptian Presidency, Ahmed Fahmy said that President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi’s participation in the G20 summit comes from an invitation by the Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, whose country holds the current presidency of the group.
Fahmy noted the importance of Egypt’s participation in the summit, as well as the close relations between Egypt and India.
President Sisi will focus on various issues of concern facing developing countries and African countries in particular, Fahmy added, and will call for strengthening international efforts to facilitate the equal integration of developing countries into the global economy.
Fahmy pointed out that President Sisi will also call to provide effective support to developing countries to achieve sustainable development goals, in the face of negative repercussions on the economy, food, and energy from many successive global crises.
The president will also urge developed nations to adhere to their pledges within international agreements to confront climate change.
International media reports state that the summit’s agenda will discuss issues such as the continuing debt problems facing a number of developing countries.
