Egypt Cabinet denies lifting regulations for unpaid leave

Egypt’s Cabinet denied rumors, spread on social media and other websites, that the government has moved to remove regulations concerning unpaid leave for government employees in the administrative sector, which would have allowed workers guaranteed unpaid leave regardless of departmental needs.

The Cabinet Media Center added, in a statement Friday, that it had contacted the Central Agency for Organization and Administration, which denied the rumor and stressed that unpaid leave is granted in accordance with Civil Service Law 81 of 2016 and its executive regulations.

The agency said that certain types of leave, such as parental leave, are protected by law. Others require the approval of competent authorities depending on needs in the workplace, such as unpaid leave.
