Egypt today began broadcasting four new radio stations directed at Nile basin countries in a bid to improve mutual relations, after five signed an agreement to redistribute Nile water this May.
Essam Eddin Farouq, head of the directed radio stations network, said Egypt has 34 directed radio stations broadcast worldwide, 12 of which use African languages.
According to Farouq, the Egyptian morning transmission directed at Tanzania, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya and Ethiopia will broadcast a variety of political, cultural and religious programs.
All the engineering work needed to bolster transmission in the larger Nile Basin countries has been provided according to Information Minister Anas al-Fiqqi's instructions, Farouq added.
Directed radio stations are intended to support economic issues, increase investment, promote tourism and disseminate religious discourse. This can be achieved with the help of reporters dispatched to African countries, Farouq said.
