Lebanese blogger Imad Bazzi was arrested at Cairo International Airport on arrival from Beirut at noon on Monday, Egyptian blogger Mohamed ElGohary told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
“Bazzi told me that the airport’s officials told him that his name appeared on the military intelligence blacklist, and he is due to be deported either tonight or Tuesday morning,” ElGohary said.
ElGohary said that he is surprised by Bazzi’s arrest as he works in Cairo and frequently travels through the airport.
The Interior Ministry spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
Bazzi, who blogs on trella.org, is the co-founder of CyberACT, a non-profit organization that aims at empowering internet activists to help bring peaceful and democratic change.
