Egypt announces new oil and gas discoveries adding 47 mln cu ft of gas, 4,300 bpd

CAIRO, Jan 16 (MENA) – The Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources said on Friday that several oil and gas companies operating in Egypt have drilled a number of successful wells in their concession areas in the Western Desert, Eastern Desert and the Nile Delta, including five new exploratory wells.

In a statement, the ministry said the new wells are expected to add around 47 million cubic feet of natural gas and about 4,300 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil and condensates to Egypt’s daily production.

Khalda Petroleum Company recorded three new oil and gas discoveries, the ministry said, with well tests showing combined production rates of about 2,550 bpd of oil and condensates and around 29 million cubic feet of gas per day. The wells are planned to be connected to production in the near term, while appraisal work continues to assess the added reserves and resources.

Separately, Desouq Petroleum Company, in partnership with Harbour Energy, successfully drilled the appraisal well Ez-2 in the Desouq development area in the Nile Delta. Electric logging results confirmed the presence of a gas-bearing sandstone layer in the Abu Madi reservoir with a thickness of 23 metres.

The previously discovered Ez-1 well has been tied in to production at a rate of 10 million cubic feet of gas per day and 500 bpd of condensates, and preparations are under way to bring the Ez-2 well on stream, the ministry added.

State-owned Egyptian General Petroleum Company also brought new wells into production in both the Western and Eastern deserts, with combined output estimated at around 8 million cubic feet of gas and more than 1,250 bpd of oil and condensates.

The GPR-3 well was put on production at the new GPR field, producing about 8 million cubic feet of gas and 250 bpd of condensates from the Bahariya formation for the first time. The well was connected to the Abu Sennan condensate separation facility in a record time of just two days.

In the Eastern Desert, the Kharaza-5 well was brought on stream at a rate of about 1,000 bpd, following seismic survey work carried out by United Energy, the company responsible for field operations, the statement said.
