Egypt and Jordan to sign new gas deal by end of July

Egypt and Jordan will sign a revised agreement for the export of Egyptian natural gas before the end of July, said Minister of Petroleum Abdullah Ghorab.

In statements to Al-Masry Al-Youm, Ghorab said the two countries are determined to sign the agreement to achieve the interests of both sides, having finalized 90 percent of the financial and legal aspects of the deal.

After the 25 January revolution, the Egyptian government insisted on raising the price of gas exports to Jordan, which used to receive it at US$3 per thermal unit, compared to an international price of US$6 to 7.

Informed sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that Egyptian and Jordanian negotiators differed slightly on the final price of gas exports in meetings on Saturday.
