Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty said the strong relations and historical bonds that unite Egypt and Algeria constitute a solid foundation for joint action to confront challenges facing the Middle East region. This came during a phone call made by Abdelatty on Tuesday 6/8/2024with his Algerian counterpart Ahmed Attaf.
Abdelatty highlighted the joint coordination between the two sides and the continuous consultation on various issues and files, especially in light of the pivotal role played by Algeria as a non-permanent Arab member of the UN Security Council in 2024-2025, foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.
Abdelatty briefed his Algerian counterpart on the latest developments regarding the volatile situation in the Gaza Strip, and Egypt’s strenuous efforts and intensive contacts with all active parties, with the aim of reaching a ceasefire, containing the regional escalation and working to establish calm to prevent the outbreak of a full-blown war that threatens the security and stability of the entire region.
The two top diplomats discussed a number of files on the agenda of both the African Union and the United Nations, where the importance of maintaining the pace of coordination and consultation was emphasized in light of the similarity of visions between the both sides regarding many files and issues.
The two officials agreed to continue consultation in relation to common challenges facing the region.
