The Egyptian Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, al-Sayed al-Qusair, said on Sunday that the government aims to reclaim and cultivate more than 3.5 million feddans during the upcoming short period.
The agricultural sector in Egypt receives great support from the political leadership, he assured, as represented in the size of the major national projects that have been established and related to agriculture.
These especially include the giant new delta projects, the North and central Sinai development project, and the Egyptian rural development project, in addition to other projects in southern Upper Egypt and the New Valley.
Qusair’s statements came during his speech at the opening of the Al-Ahram Agricultural Exhibition, in the presence of the Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali al-Moselhy, members of Parliament, and some leaders of the Ministries of Agriculture and Supply.
Increasing productivity
The Agriculture Minister stressed the Egyptian state’s important role in adopting policies to implement vertical expansion projects aimed at increasing the productivity of crops and agricultural products, improving agricultural practices and developing varieties and hybrids adapted to climate changes.
He also stressed the importance of increasing pumping and directing investments and support in the agricultural sector and its related activities in livestock, fish and poultry.
Qusair added that the agricultural sector is a vital part of the national economy. It is a resilient sector able to withstand shocks, and productivity, he said, noting that its growth is accelerating.
He stressed that the wastage rate in new agricultural projects is very low, and the government use modern mechanization in agriculture to monitor the crop.
