Residents of the Edko district staged demonstrations protesting the building of a British Petroleum natural gas installation in the area. They blocked the highway for 15 minutes.
The residents say the project would pollute the environment and impede fishermen from using the lake.
Raafat Beltagy, Vice President of the Natural Gas Holding Company, said the installation would not produce petrochemicals. “Choosing another site would take two years and cost US$269 million per month,” he noted.
