Dusty, rainy weather across Egypt on Saturday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority warned of unstable weather on Saturday, with satellites monitoring activity of winds that blow up sand and dust – alongside chances for moderate rain in most parts of Egypt.

Moderate weather prevails on Saturday morning, hotter during the day in Greater Cairo, Lower Egypt and the northern coasts, while very hot in South Sinai and southern parts of the country, and moderate weather prevails at night in all parts.

Temperature continues to rise reaching 36C in Greater Cairo, and 42C in the governorates of southern Upper Egypt during daylight hours.

The EMA indicated that the weather during the spring season typically witnesses rapid fluctuation, as depressions are formed coming from the Libyan desert and heading towards the western desert of Egypt.

This is accompanied by active southwesterly ‘Khamaseen winds’ which will blow up sand and dust and impact road visibility.

This will be also accompanied by intense heat waves and then a stark decrease in temperatures, causing rainfall of varying intensities in the northern parts of the country.

Saturday’s weather:

There are chances of rainfall on the northwestern coasts and northern Lower Egypt, thunderstorms in areas of South Sinai, southern Upper Egypt and central Upper Egypt.

Meteorologists appealed to citizens in these areas to be careful and not to stand under billboards during rain or tall trees, and not to photograph thunder with mobile phones.

The EMA expects intermittent winds blowing up sand and dust on areas of the northwestern coasts, the western desert, southern Upper Egypt, and open areas of Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt.

Meteorologists warned not to be exposed to direct sunlight during the peak hours “from one until four in the afternoon,” in order to avoid sunstroke.

They also advised to take appropriate amounts of fluids, and wear cotton clothes during the day alongside head coverings to protect from the sun’s rays.

Temperatures on Saturday:

Northern coasts: 30C

Northern Upper Egypt: 35C

Greater Cairo and Lower Egypt: 36C

South Sinai: 36C

Southern Upper Egypt: 42C
