Dostour Party leader Hossam Eissa reportedly tendered his resignation on Thursday, despite party chief Mohamed ElBaradei’s efforts to persuade him to stay.
Eissa said he resigned in protest against certain members trying to occupy permanent positions within the party.
The Dostour Party was officially established in September 2012. It is a co-founder of the National Salvation Front, the largest opposition coalition against President Mohamed Morsy and the Muslim Brotherhood.
Other party members resigned in February in protest against alleged interventions in the internal elections in Kafr El-Sheikh. This followed party member Shaarawi Abdel Baqi death in January of a heart attack during an altercation with a party leading figure insisting that the secretariats should be appointed and not elected.
“I see ugly faces in the party that lie,” Eissa said. “I am confident the younger generation of members can face them.”
